Fundraising for Monasteries

For over 10 years now the Cabramatta Parish has been actively  supporting the Monasteries in the far south of NSW.

These are the  Presentation Sisterhood (PS) and Holy Transfiguration Monastery (HTM).

2017 was a record year where 400 people attended to listen to Abbott Sergei from the HTM give a talk on Hagia Sophia: the Mother of Churches. There was also performance by the Melisma Ensemble and Russian Orthodox Choir who helped raise $45,000 for the Monasteries.

In 2018 there will be two major fundraising initiatives to benefit the Monasteries: a fundraising dinner on Sunday 20 May and a large (100:100) raffle.

Fundraising Dinner

A fundraising dinner will be held at 5.00pm Sunday 20 May 2018 (6 weeks after Easter). This will be in the Church Hall of Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. The Cabramatta Church Hall is no longer big enough, as was witnessed by all those who attended in 2016 and 2017.

During the evening Fr Rade Radan, from the Serbian Diocese, will give a talk on:

“Serpents and Doves”

There will be a raffle where ticket prices will be:

  • $2 each
  • 3 for $5
  • 7 for $10
  • 15 for $20
  • 50 for $50

An auction of highly desirable items will create proceeds for the Presentation Sisterhood. The Church car park is relatively small and there is on street parking available nearby.

Starting at 4.30pm on the day, the Nuns from the Presentation Sisterhood will be selling handiworks, jams, chocolates, hand made soaps etc.

There will a silent auction where people can place bids.

Entry will be $50 per adult, $40 for pensioners and $15 for a child in the crèche located in Russian School next to the Church hall. Seating is at rectangular tables of 8 and a French themed dinner will be served.

The start time is listed as 5.00 pm and we will have prayer for meal at 5.30pm. The early start is designed so that the function can finish earlier and people can get home at a reasonable hour.

Large Raffle

A 100:100 raffle will be drawn at the fundraising dinner in Strathfield on Sunday 20 May 2018. Tickets are $100 each and only 100 will be sold. Tickets will be sold by Mark Ganin in Sydney with 80 tickets to be sold before the event. A reserve of 20 tickets will be held to sell to guests attending the evening. Interstate people are welcome to purchase $100 raffle tickets and can do so by contacting Mark Ganin on 0409 178 536 or by email to mark.ganin@bigpond.com  The cash prizes in this raffle are:

  1. $4,000
  2. $500
  3. $500

Tickets go on sale in March 2018. Once the last ticket is sold, the Presentation Sisterhood gets a guaranteed $5,000 for their construction fund.
