Fundraising for Monasteries

For over 10 years now the Cabramatta Parish has been actively  supporting the Monasteries in the far south of NSW.

These are the  Presentation Sisterhood (PS) and Holy Transfiguration Monastery (HTM).

2017 was a record year where 400 people attended to listen to Abbott Sergei from the HTM give a talk on Hagia Sophia: the Mother of Churches. There was also performance by the Melisma Ensemble and Russian Orthodox Choir who helped raise $45,000 for the Monasteries.

In 2019 there is one major fundraising initiatives to benefit the Presentation Sisterhood: a fundraising dinner on Sunday 09 June.

Fundraising Dinner

A fundraising dinner will be held at 6.00pm Sunday 9 June 2019 (6 weeks after Easter). This will be in the Church Hall of Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. The Cabramatta Church Hall is no longer big enough, as was witnessed by all those who attended in 2016 and 2017.

During the evening there will be performances by the

Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia

directed by N.A. Kotlaroff.

This will be followed up by Fr Nicholas Karipoff, from the Melbourne Pokrov Cathedral, who will give a talk on:

“Nationhood and Unity in the Church”

There will be a raffle where ticket prices will be:

  • $2 each
  • 3 for $5
  • 7 for $10
  • 15 for $20
  • 50 for $50
  • 100 for $80

An auction of highly desirable items will create proceeds for the Presentation Sisterhood. The Church car park is relatively small and there is on street parking available nearby.

Starting at 5.30pm on the day, the Nuns from the Presentation Sisterhood will be selling handiworks, jams, chocolates, hand made soaps etc.

Grange and other super premium Australian wines will be sold by the glass.

Some of the feature auction items and raffle prizes include paintings by Tonia Ganin and ceramic works by Andrei Davidoff

Entry will be $50 per adult, $40 for pensioners and students. Seating is at rectangular tables of 8 and an Italian themed dinner will be served. On each table there will be bottles of wine and water.

The start time is listed as 6.00 pm and we will have prayer for meal at 6.30pm. The start reflects that this event is held during a long weekend.

2  vacant tables (of 8) available to be booked. There is a maximum of 162 places in the room. Tables that are not booked will be made available as unreserved seating to guests who walk up on the night.
